Birkaç hafta önce İstanbul’a tatile gelmiş çok şeker Amerikalı bir çiftle tanıştım. Sohbetimiz sırasında daha önce Türkiye’ye gelip gelmediklerini sordum. “Kapadokya’ya gittik ve çok sevdik” dediler.

Nasıl utandım anlatamam! Onlar taaa nerelerden gelmişlerdi, ben 1,5 saatte ulaşabileceğim bu harika yere henüz gitmemiştim. O anda ilk fırsatta gitmeye karar verdim…

Bu konuşmanın olduğu günün üzerinden henüz 2-3 gün geçmişti ki Ayşe aradı ve “Kapadokya’ya gitmeye ne dersin? Hem de süper bir otelde kalacağız!” dedi. Bir şeyi gerçekten istersen olur derler ya, düşünün ne kadar gönülden istemişim…

Kapadokya’ya harika bir ekiple gittim ve orada 2 gün geçirdim. Bu yazı bir Kapadokya rehberi değil elbet ama buyrun benim yaşadığım Kapadokya…

Gittim Gördüm

Museum Hotel

Ayşe harika bir otelde kalacağımızı söylerken haklıymış! Odalarından manzarasına, spa’sından personeline, yemeklerine kadar gerçekten harika bir otel Museum…

Odaların her biri birbirinden farklı. Çok zevkli. Otelde müzeye kayıtlı tarihi eserleri, sahibi Ömer Tosun’un koleksiyonundan çok değerli parçaları görmek mümkün.Tabi ki ilk önce manzarasına vuruluyorsunuz. Özellikle gün doğumunda… Balona binmiyorsanız bile, ki ben binmedim, saatinizi kurun ve havuz başında peri bacalarının üzerinden yükselen balonların müthiş manzarasını izlerken bir kahve için.

Kahvaltı harika! Oldukça zengin bir açık büfeleri var. Kendi balları, kendi buğdaylarından ürettikleri unla yapılmış ekmekler, gözlemeler, ev yapımı reçeller, pekmezler…

Bir diğer sevdiğim şey de, gün batımında, yemekten önce havuz başında yakılan ateşin etrafında toplanmak ve yine Ömer Bey’in bağlarındaki üzümlerden yapılan şarapları tatmaktı…

Müthiş restoranları Lil’a’dan ise aşağıda bahsedeceğim…

 O Ağacın Altı

Güzel Kapadokya ayaklarınızın altında. 13 milyon yıla bakıyorsunuz… Şaka değil… Sizin dışınızdaki yaşamın büyüklüğüne şahit oluyorsunuz. Kendinizi küçücük de hissedebilirsiniz, orada olduğunuz için çok şanslı da… Eğer bir gün giderseniz bol bol fotoğraf çekin ve kahvenizi yudumlarken bu muhteşem manzarayı seyredin. Aynı zamanda hediyelik eşya dükkanları da var.

 Göreme Aşk Vadisi

Kaldığımız otelin de sahibi olan Ömer Tosun’la tanışmamış ve sabah yürüyüş yapmak istediğimizi söylememiş olsak bu güzel vadiyi tadamamış olacaktık.

Bir sabah Ayşe, ben, Ömer Bey ve köpeği Bobo yaklaşık 1,5 saatlik bir vadi yürüyüşü yaptık. Hem de ne yürüyüş! Ömer Bey müthiş bilgili biri. Bir yandan onun hikayelerini dinledik, bir yandan ağaçlardan topladığımız elmaları, ayvaları yedik. Harika bir sabahtı! 

Şahinefendi Kırk Martirler Kilisesi

Bölgede kilise sayısı oldukça fazla. Bir kısmı ziyarete açık değil. Biz de bu kiliseyi özel izinle gezdik. Restore edilmiş. Zamanının sanatçılarının duvarlara yaptıkları resimlerin büyük bölümü hala görülebiliyor. Bizans etkisi var… İnançları dolayısıyla Sivas civarında donmuş bir göle atılarak öldürülmüş kırk keşiş… Bu kilise onlara adanmış…

Kapadokya’ya giderseniz siz de en az bir kilise görmelisiniz…

 

Yedim İçtim

Lil’a Restaurant

Lil’a Restaurant, Museum Hotel’in içinde fakat orada yemek yemeniz için otelde konaklıyor olmanız şart değil. Şef Murat Bozok Türk Mutfağı’nı öyle güzel yorumlamış ki! Hangi birini anlatayım? Enfes çorbalar, etler, tatlılar… Lil’a’da yemek yemeden Kapadokya’dan dönülmez!

 Ziggy Café

Nuray ve Selim Yüksel seneler önce İstanbul’dan gelmişler bu bölgeye. Nur Hanım takı ve kıyafet tasarlıyor. Önceleri bu taş evi atölye ve dükkan olarak kullanmışlar fakat eşler dostlar geldikçe, zamanla evin bir bölümünü café yapmaya karar vermişler. Ziggy ise bir süre önce kaybettikleri köpeklerinin adı…

Ziggy’de ev hissi var, samimiyet var, güzel lezzetler var… Şanslıydık, hava güzeldi, dışarıda oturduk ama içerisi de pek tatlı. Favori lezzetlerim börek ve katiyen tarifini vermedikleri Ziggy patates…

 

Baktım Aldım

Ziggy Dükkan

Cafenin altı Nuray Hanım’ın tasarladığı takı ve giysileri de bulabileceğiniz çok şirin bir dükkan. Ben kendime bir magnet, gümüş küpeler ve görür görmez vurulduğum sevdalı güvercinleri aldım… Kapadokya’da kendine has, değişik bir hediyelik eşya dükkanı bulamadığımı söylemeliyim. Ama evinize buradan güzel bir hatıra götürmek istiyorsanız Ziggy doğru adres.

Naturel Kuruyemiş

Öncelikle söyleyeyim, Kapadokya’nın kabak çekirdeği meşhur. Tuzlusu, tuzsuzu, kavrulmuşu… Bir çok yerde kuruyemişçiler çıkacak karşınıza. Ama Ürgüp’teki Naturel Kuruyemiş olayı bir ileri basamağa çıkarmış. Daha biz içeri girer girmez ikrama başladılar. Çaylar, yemişler, pestiller… Hangi birinden alacağınızı şaşırırsınız. Türkiye’nin her yerine kargo servisleri de varmış! Ben söyleyeyim de 🙂  (Tel: 0384 341 32 57)

İşte bu benim 2 günlük Kapadokya’m… Iyi ki gittim. Canım ülkemin hem de ne güzel bir yerini gördüm, çok güzel insanlarla tanıştım, çok lezzetli yemekler yedim. Her birinden, özellikle de hayal ettiğini hayata geçirme becerisi ve başardığı onca şeyle birlikte içindeki çocuğu kaybetmeyen Ömer Tosun’dan çok büyük ilham aldım. Kendisine buradan tüm ilgisi ve bizlerle paylaştığı hikayesi için çok teşekkür ederim. Yeniden karşılaşacağımızı biliyorum…

A few weeks ago I met an American couple who were visiting Istanbul. While we were talking, I asked them if they had ever been to Turkey before. And they said “We have been to Cappadocia and we loved it”.

I can’t tell you how ashamed I was! They have been to Cappadocia all the way from America and it takes only 1,5 hours flight for me to go there and I have never been there before! That moment I decided to go to Cappadocia as soon as possible…

It was only 2-3 days after this conversation and Ayşe called and said “How about going to Cappadocia? And we’re going to stay at a great hotel!”. They say, when you really want something from your heart it happens. Imagine how much I wanted to be there…

I went to Cappadocia with great group of people and I spent 2 days there. This article isn’t a Cappadocia guide but here is Cappadocia that I lived…

 

Went and Saw

Museum Hotel

When Ayşe told me that we were going to stay at a great hotel, she was right! From its rooms to its view, spa, crew and food, Museum is a wonderful hotel.

Every room is different than the others. Result of a very good taste. You can see the historical pieces that are registered to the museum and the collection of Ömer Tosun who is the owner of the hotel.

First I was impressed by the view. Especially during sunrise… Even if you don’t take the balloon trip, and I didn’t, set your alarm and drink your morning coffee by the pool while watching the view of the balloons flying over the chimney rocks.

The breakfast is also great! They have a very rich open buffet. Their own honey, bread and flatbread prepared with the flour made of their own wheat, home made jams, molasses…

At the sunset time, before dinner, gathering around the fire by the pool and tasting the wine made of the grapes from Mr. Tosun’s vineyard was another thing that I loved…

O Ağacın Altı (Under That Tree)

Beautiful Cappadocia is under your feet. You are looking at 13 million years… It’s not a joke… You are witnessing the greatness of life. You can feel small or lucky to be there… If you go there one day take a lot of pictures and watch this marvelous view while you drink your coffee. They also have a souvenir store…

Göreme Love Valley

If we didn’t meet the owner of our hotel, Mr. Tosun and told him that we want to take a morning walk before breakfast, we wouldn’t be able to taste this beautiful valley.

One morning Ayşe, I, Mr. Tosun and his dog Bobo took a 1,5 hours walk at the Love Valley. What a walk it was! Mr. Tosun is a very sophisticated man. While we listened to his stories, we picked and ate apples and quinces from the trees on our way. It was a wonderful morning!

Şahinefendi Forty Martyrs Church

There are a lot of churches in the area. Some of them are not open for visiting. And we visited this church with a special permission. It is restored. You can see the wall paintings made by the artists of that time. There is a Byzantian effect… Forty monks, killed by the cold water of a lake around Sivas, because of their beliefs… This church is dedicated to them…

You should see at least one church if you go to Cappadocia

Lil’a Restaurant

Lil’a is inside Museum Hotel but you don’t have to stay at the hotel to have a lunch or dinner there. Chef Murat Bozok interpreted Turkish cuisine very well! I can’t decide which one to tell you! All of the food that I tasted was delicious! Soup, meat, fish, desserts… You can’t leave Cappadocia without having a meal at Lil’a…

Ziggy Café

Nuray and Selim Yüksel came to the area from Istanbul several years ago. Mrs Yüksel is designing jewellery and clothes. At first they used this house as an atelier and a shop. But as friends come and go they decided to use some part of it as a café. Ziggy is the name of their dog, died some time ago…

There is a feeling of home, sincerity and good tastes at Ziggy… We were lucky, the weather was sunny so we had our lunch outside. But inside was also very sweet… My favorite tastes were the pie and Ziggy fried potatoes which they didn’t give me the recipe of no matter what I did…

At the first floor of the café there is a store which you can also find the jewellery and the clothes that Mrs. Yüksel designs other than many souvenirs. I bought a magnet, silver earrings and the ‘pigeons in love’ that I had a crush the moment I saw! I must say that I couldn’t find any unique souvenir stores in Cappadocia. But if you want to take a nice memory with you when you go home, Ziggy Shop is the right address.

Naturel Kuruyemiş

First of all, let me tell you that Cappadocia’s pumpkin seed is famous. Salted, unsalted, roasted… You will see stores selling dried fruits and nuts everywhere but Naturel Kuruyemiş in Ürgüp takes it to the next level! They started offering tea, nuts and fruits as soon as we entered the store! We wanted to buy everything! They were all delicious! And you don’t have to be there, you can order anything you like by phone. They send orders to anywhere in Turkey… (Tel: 0384 341 32 57)

 

That was my 2 days of Cappadocia… I’m glad that I was there. I saw a lovely part of my lovely country, I met beautiful people and ate delicious food. And I was inspired from each of them, especially from Mr. Tosun who has the ability of making dreams come true and keeps the child inside of him with all the things he accomplished through the years… I want to thank him for all his interest, and for sharing his story with us. I know we’re going to meet again…
